Dear Editor,
Upon researching the living cost of Corpus Christi, we have decided that it is not the best-case scenario for those who are working jobs in which the pay is only $6.50 an hour. This is clearly not enough to get by. Working forty hours and busting our butts to work for a small paycheck at the end of the week hardly covers the cost of rent.
I believe that the city council should implement an increase in our pay in which the businesses that we work for can provide us with a bigger and better income. We have to pay bills and more bills, leaving us without any money to spend on ourselves. With the cost of gas, rent, utilities, and food, it would only be fair for us to receive a little more from the companies instead of them pocketing the money they receive from massive tax breaks.

If we get paid more, maybe in return we can actually spend money on businesses and companies instead of only saving all our money for our cost of living. If we really want to improve our community let’s put our money where our mouth is and take a step that would elevate our community out from under crushing poverty.
Let’s implement a living wage ordinance. Other cites that have enacted these incentives have proven to show success in their economy. Corpus Christi should be next. Maybe this way, some of us will be able to afford more than just the necessities of life.
Sincerely,
Roxy Grimaldo
