Dear Editor,
One of my good friends was arrested the night of April 31 by on campus
police. He was cooperative when taken into custody and did as he was told.
All in all he did his "job" as detainee. The arresting officer was not so
courteous. My friend was detained, held, and questioned for two and a half
hours before being read his Miranda Rights. The police also used profanity
toward him on more than one occasion during the incident. He took the time
to schedule a meeting with the chief of campus police to file a complaint on
the following Monday. When he arrived, on time, he was told the chief was"too busy" to attend the previously scheduled meeting.
College is where many students have their first interaction and get their
first impression of police. In order to build a bond of trust and respect
Respectfully
submitted,
